One of the amazing things that’s happening during this uprising for racial justice is that long over-due changes are taking place – especially with statues of racists coming down.

Christopher Columbus, in addition to being the first white explorer (not counting the much earlier Vikings of course) to enter North America, was a pretty terrible person –

Columbus once punished a man found guilty of stealing corn by having his ears and nose cut off and then selling him into slavery. Testimony recorded in the report stated that Columbus congratulated his brother Bartolomeo on “defending the family” when the latter ordered a woman paraded naked through the streets and then had her tongue cut out for suggesting that Columbus was of lowly birth. The document also describes how Columbus put down native unrest and revolt: he first ordered a brutal crackdown in which many natives were killed, and then paraded their dismembered bodies through the streets in an attempt to discourage further rebellionhttps://www.wikiwand.com/en/Christopher_Columbus#/Accusations_of_tyranny_and_brutality

If you’ve been following the news, statues of Columbus have been taken and dragged down in various places around the world.

Today, this announcement was made here:

The next task is to change the name of our fair city (the 14th most populous in the nation – bigger than San Francisco, Denver and Boston BTW)

And just for fun and for your rooting pleasure:
