READING! “My Paper.li” for Friday, July 31st

Today’s a great day (even if I am posting this later than usual due to a training I attended this morning – more on this later today!)

It’s my son’s 19th birthday and since he’s my oldest, it’s also my birthday as a dad.

And today is the feast day of one of my three patron saints (a second one of my trio had her feast day quite recently) – Saint Ignatius of Loyola – founder of the Jesuits aka, The Society of Jesus.

A couple of introductory videos will take the place of the daily reflection from Fr. Richard (of the Franciscan order – which predates the Jesuits by more than 300 years!)

Here’s the short introduction:

And here’s a longer, more detailed and personal video from one of my favorite Jesuits – Fr. Jim Martin, S.J.:

See the end of this post for well known Jesuit composed music as well as the most famous prayer authored by St. Ignatius of Loyola.

The newest World in Prayer was posted yesterday afternoon.

And James Hohmann in today’s episode of the Daily 202 Big Idea Podcast focuses on how government officials have been surveilling journalists covering the recent protests in Portland and other U.S. cities. He also talks about – Republicans rebuff Trump’s suggestion to postpone the election. And White House sources say they’re willing to support a coronavirus bill without a liability shield.

Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O Good Jesus, hear me.
Within your wounds hide me.
Permit me not to be separated from you.
From the wicked foe, defend me.
At the hour of my death, call me
and bid me come to you
That with your saints I may praise you
For ever and ever. Amen.

One Final Note: I will be editing “My Paper.li” on Saturday and Sunday mornings by about 10 am EDT. So, if you check the link (which stays the same every day) after 10am, you’ll access the version that I’ve hand curated.

I’m just taking a break from posting entries on the weekend like the ones I post on weekdays.

From my trip to San Francisco three years ago this week.
